Moments ago, news broke that a sale of the Nashville Predators is now complete. According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Bill Haslam has finalized a purchase for the Predators for a price of $880 million.
The sale of the team comes as a slight surprise, as it wasn't very public that a sale of the Predators was possible. However, this sale will likely have implications for the other high profile team sale in the Ottawa Senators. The Senators have been rumoured to have bids of sale in the range of one billion dollars.
Hopefully for the Predators and Preds fans, this won't impact the coming role for Barry Trotz, who recently accepted the new GM role. Often times owners prefer to make their own hires, but it's hard to imagine an improvement over the legendary Barry Trotz.
Additionally, hopefully this is a step towards the Predators becoming seriously competitive again down the road. For years, the team has been in a middling situation, barely qualifying for the first round only to lose badly. With new management and ownership, maybe the team will look to build a more well rounded, highly competitive team for years to come.
