The San Jose Sharks have signed recently-acquired goaltender Yaroslav Askarov to a contract extension.

Just hours after acquiring Yaroslav Askarov in a deal with the Nashville Predators, the San Jose Sharks have locked up the Russian netminder to a contract extension.

According to PuckPedia, the San Jose Sharks have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $4 million USD ($2 million AAV) with Yaroslav Askarov that will kick in ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Askarov's contract extension will see him earn $1.7 million in salary during the 2025-26 campaign, along with a $200,000 signing bonus. Meanwhile for the 2026-27 season, his salary is set to be $2.1 million.

Last season, Askarov had a record of 30-13-1 in 44 games with the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League, along with a 2.39 goals against average, a .911 save percentage and six shutouts. He's also appeared in three NHL games so far in his career, with the Nashville Predators, where the Omsk, Russia native is 1-1-0 with a 2.57 GAA and a .914 save percentage.

Heading into training camp next month, Askarov is going to have a pretty good chance to earn a roster spot right away and is the future between the pipes in San Jose. If he's able to make the opening night roster, it'll be interesting to see what direction the Sharks take with Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek as it's unlikely all three would be on the 23-man roster.
