Podcast Host Has A Metro Division Team Leading The Race To Sign Brett Pesce
The opening of NHL Free Agency is upon us in one week with many talented players looking for contracts. One of those players is top four defenceman Brett Pesce. With the Carolina Hurricanes coming off a disappointing playoff exit after being eliminated in Round 2 by the New York Rangers. Many changes are expected with one of those being Pesce not returning to Carolina.
Looking at the upcoming Free Agent class, Pesce will be one of the most sought-after defensemen in the market. While he doesn't provide a ton of offence (thirty points being his career high) Pesce will provide a reliable presence on the back end, tasked with shutting down the opponents best players.
The Empty Netters podcast co-host Dan Powers reveals that the New Jersey Devils are leading the race to capture the 29 year old Pesce's signature.
Hearing Brett Pesce is likely to end up with the New Jersey Devils 👀
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Pesce who was born in Tarrytown, New York which is roughly two hours away from New Jersey. Pesce would slot in nicely in a top four that already has Dougie Hamilton and Luke Hughes.
Whichever team lands Pesce, will definitely need to give him a raise after just finishing his 6-year contract that carried a cap hit of $4.025M. Pesce's camp is probably looking at a deal that pays him in the $6-7M range.
