New York Islanders' Anthony Duclaire shared a social media featuring his dreadlocks next to scissors & clippers as he gets ready to head to New York Islanders camp.

New York Islanders President of Hockey Operations Lou Lamoriello who has been in the game for over fifty years marches to the beat of his own drum. While he's managed to facilitate putting great teams on the ice, especially during his time in New Jersey, some of his ideologies seem a bit outdated and quite possibly insulting and inappropriate for this day and age.

Anthony Duclair, who signed with the Islanders for four years earlier this summer posted on social media about a haircut he had undergone and while that shouldn't be cause for concern or even newsworthy, it appears that Duclair was asked to cut his trademark dreadlocks to adhere to a code of conduct policy in which Lamoriello has had with most if not all the clubs he has been in charge of.

Many people have expressed outrage at the idea that players such as Duclair can't come to camp or play for a team they signed with, without playing by Lamoriello's largely unwritten and made-up rules.

It's important to understand that the National Hockey League is a business and as such players are representatives of their respective clubs. Professionally presenting themselves is important, especially while on the job, within the confines of their job description or title however forcing a player to alter their appearance is unnecessary and could be perceived as prejudice, especially given in Duclair's case that his choice of hairstyle is largely symbolic of his culture.

While Duclair must have known what Lamoriello's policies were before putting a pen to paper it certainly isn't right no matter how you swing it. Why players can't show a little personality on a Lamoriello-led team, especially when it's part of one culture is beyond comprehension.
