13-year NHL veteran released from professional try-out contract
After failing to earn a contract on a PTO with the Detroit Red Wings last fall, it was unclear what would come next for long-time NHL forward Artem Anisimov.
After just over three months on the sidelines waiting for another opportunity, Anisimov landed another professional try-out contract, this time in the American Hockey League with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Anisimov began his PTO with Hartford in early January, but in the weeks ahead, he didn't perform as many had hoped and this week, the Wolf Pack made the difficult decision to release him.
"New York Rangers Assistant General Manager and Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Ryan Martin announced today that the Wolf Pack has released forward Artem Anisimov from his professional tryout agreement (PTO)."
The 13-year National Hockey League veteran appeared in 18 games for the Wolf Pack, putting up only four points (one goal, three assists), six penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
Anisimov, who turns 36 in May, might not have many options remaining if he wishes to continue playing professional hockey, especially in North America. Returning home to Russia or playing elsewhere in Europe could potentially be an option for the 2024-25 season.
