With a disappointing end to what many thought would be a successful New York Rangers, it now appears that those who cover the team on Broadway believe that Kappo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere are most likely going to be cap casualties going into the offseason.

Lafreniere who was drafted first overall in the 2020 National Hockey league never panned out for the Rangers as his was mismanaged and he never really connected with the coaching staff or his teammates on the ice. In three seasons with the Rangers, the Left Winger who was initially compared to Evgeni Malkin due to his tall lanky frame, along with great hands and high hockey IQ never panned out.

Kakko, who just completed his fourth season with the Rangers doubled his point production this past season contributing with 40 points in 82 games. The 22 year old from Turku, Finland who has one year left on his contract will be an RFA at the end of his current deal.

The Rangers go into this offseason with a cloud of uncertainty that President & General Manager Chris Drury have hanging over his head and though the moves he made at the deadline didn't pan out and he must get creative while not rebuilding, yet retooling only time will tell whether a new coach and on ice personnel changes will change the fortune of a team that hasn't won a Stanley Cup since 1994 and hasn't made it to a Cup final in nearly a decade.
