Former NHLer Sean Avery Reveals First Purchase With NHL Paycheque
When that first paycheque hits for an NHL player, the feeling of accomplishment and pride has to be overwhelming. The years of dedication finally paying off. Many players would use that first paycheque to take their family out for a nice dinner or treat themselves to a shopping spree. For former NHLer and now media personality Sean Avery went a different route with his new found riches.
A unknown media member messaged Avery, saying they are working a piece that reveals what NHLers bought with their first paycheque. Avery's response..
We can appreciate Avery's honesty here but his answer isn't a very kid friendly response. Not that Avery would care very much knowing the personality he has demonstrated during his time in the limelight.
The 44 year old has providing hockey fans with entertainment since he broke into the league during the 2001-02 season with the Detroit Red Wings. During his NHL career he suited up in 580 NHL regular season games, scoring 90 goals and 247 points.
Avery was such a nuisance during his playing days that a rule had to be created dubbed "The Avery Rule." In 2008, in a playoff game against Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils, Avery turned his body to face Brodeur and wildly flailed his arms at an attempt to distract Brodeur from tracking the puck. The move worked and Avery and the Rangers scored on the man advantage.
The next day, the NHL stated that Avery's tactics were unsportsmanlike and any future attempts of repeating his move would result in a minor penalty.
