Over the last week, the Rangers have let it be known several veteran players are available via trade but star Chris Kreider is attempting to block teams from trading for him.
The New York Rangers have not lived up to their own expectations during the 2024-25 season so far barely hanging on in the Stanley Cup Playoff race.
With their lack of production recently GM Chris Drury has let other teams know that the Rangers would be open to trading away veterans like Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba.
This news was not received well by the Rangers veterans who were not expecting to hear their names mentioned in trade talks.
Reports confirmed that Chris Drury had to meet with Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider to explain himself.
After meeting with the players it seems like star forward Chris Kreider has decided to take matters into his own hands in trying to stay with the New York Rangers.
Chris Kreider warns teams not to trade for him amidst trade rumors
In the middle of all of this drama, Chris Kreider has added further intrigue and confusion to the matter.
In recent days Chris Kreider has been out due to an injury and he did something basically unheard of by admitting exactly what his injury is and how severe it is.
I thought the thing that was really interesting was that he detailed his injuries,"\ said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. It's very rare in this day and age when you have a player come right out and say 'This is what's bothering me and this is the issue.
Elliotte Friedman continued his thoughts and passed along rumblings from other players that Chris Kreider is indeed trying to scare off other teams.
Another player said to me it was kind of like Kreider was saying 'Buyer beware this is what you're dealing with,' said Friedman. Another player took it to mean that Kreider doesn't want to go anywhere. He loves being a Ranger, his family is happy being Rangers and he's really secure in the community
\
He took it as 'This is your warning that this is what you're dealing with if you try to trade for me'" said Friedman of his NHL player source. I thought that was a really interesting theory.
While Elliotte Friedman admits that this is just a theory at the moment, Chris Kreider seems to have little interest in leaving New York and is willing to take mattersto ensure his stay to the extreme with the Rangers.
As the situation continues to develop it will be interesting to hear from Chris Kreider and see if he is asked about these reports from Elliotte Friedman.
