Several UFC fighters were shown clips of NHL fights in a video that was released this afternoon ahead of UFC 309.
Most of the fights featured Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe, who has quickly developed a reputation as one of the meanest fighters in the league. One fighter, Michael Chandler, was so impressed by him that he offered to bring him in to do some training together.
There is one glaring difference between Rempe and Chandler. The Rangers forward is listed at 6'7" 241 pounds according to Hockey Reference.
Chandler, on the other hand, is listed at 5'8" 156 pounds according to Wikipedia. As such, the two men are on opposite ends of the weight class scale, and Rempe has a huge advantage in terms of height and reach.
Chandler could have a very difficult time despite his professional training and experience if he actually did a fight with him.
With all of that being said, Rempe is not even with the Rangers right now. The enforcer was sent down to the Hartford WolfPack of the AHL last month after a terrible start to the season. As such, he might not even be in New York again for some time as he travels around North America with the AHL club.
He will definitely miss UFC 309 as the Wolf Pack play the Providence Bruins tonight at home.
While Rempe deals with the Providence Bruins, Chandler will be taking on Charles Oliveira in the lightweight championship tonight.
Oliveira comes into tonight with a 34-10 record while Chandler is 23-8. Be sure to tune in as the fight should be more exciting than what we saw last night with Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
