At 12-6-1 through 19 games played, the New York Rangers have been off to another great start, and after making the Eastern Conference Finals in two of the past three years, they are looking to finally make a run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2024/25.
However, they just finished their Western road trip with back-to-back defeats against the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers, and now, they may be looking to shake things up.
In a shock report on Monday, Insider Elliotte Friedman has now revealed that Chris Kreider and captain Jabo Trouba have both been placed on the trade block from New York as they put together a roster that they believe can win a Stanley Cup.
After this report, Rangers reporter Emily Kaplan confirmed the news from Friedman, revealing that the names placed on this list were intentional from the team, and whether they move them or not, they are sending a message to the team that no one should feel complacent or comfortable with their roster spot.
While the Rangers sit in a playoff spot at the quarter mark of the season, their record can certainly be misleading, as they are currently 1-6-0 against teams in a Stanley Cup Playoff position right now, signalling that they may not be as good as their record indicates.
As for Kreider, he's been a driving force behind the success in New York in recent years, posting 52, 36 and 39 goals in his last three seasons, combining for a differential of +59 in that time.
This season though, he is yet to record an assist through 19 games, with 9 goals to his name, and with a -1 differential, it's safe to say that we aren't seeing the best Kreider on the ice in 2024/25.
With a $6.5 million cap hit for two seasons beyond this one, it's not going to be easy for the Rangers to move him, but if they are indeed intent on making a change, there are teams out there that would love to have an experienced goal scorer, so expect to hear much more about this story in the coming weeks.
