Rangers captain Jacob Trouba has been in trade rumors dating back to the summer but clearly nothing has materialized.
Now it seems as though the team has decided to put an end to that, making a firm stance against a trade for both Trouba and long-time Rangers forward Chris Kreider.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed this today.
Friedman is referencing blowback from Rangers fans when Kreider's name got out in trade rumors.
It was nearly unanimous that that would be a dumb idea. Clearly, Kreider still means a lot to this fanbase.
Furthermore, Kreider has spent his entire career with the Rangers. In 835 career games, he has 313 goals and 561 points.
That is good for 3rd all-time in goals for the franchise. Luckily, it seems now that he won't be moved after all.
In fact, Friedman also confirmed that the Rangers have not granted permission to any teams to speak to either Trouba or Kreider.
With all of this being said, the Rangers are in a precarious situation.
Thanks to their slow start, the team could actually be in trouble of missing the playoffs.
If they are on the outside looking in by the time the trade deadline roles around, who is to say this narrative will not change again?
Neither player is on an expiring contract though, so perhaps a deal remains unlikely even in those circumstances.
