Trouba has found his name in trade rumours over the last month as New York Rangers General Manager Chris Drury tries to clear some cap space. Around the draft, talks heated up regarding Trouba and one team that was in the mix to land him was his home state team - the Detroit Red Wings.
Ultimately, nothing materialized on that front and as of today, July 12th, Jacob Trouba remains a member of the New York Rangers. Early last week, it was reported that a Trouba trade this summer was unlikely as his wife is currently doing her residency at a New York hospital and the couple have a six-month-old child. So it would be tough for him to leave them behind to join another organization right now.
According to Stefen Rosner, a beat reporter for NHL.com, Jacob Trouba reportedly added the Detroit Red Wings to his no-trade list when he heard that's where the Rangers were going to trade him.
With a Jacob Trouba trade likely out of the question at this point, at least until next July, Chris Drury will need to turn his attention elsewhere if he wants to clear some cap space this summer, even after they got Barclay Goodrow's full cap hit off the books with him being claimed off waivers last month. While Filip Chytil ($4.4375 million AAV) and K'Andre Miller ($3.872 million AAV) are likely to be around next season, both could also be potential trade options for Drury to clear out some money and could net the Rangers a decent return.
