Daniel Alfredsson reportedly returning to the Ottawa Senators
A franchise legend is expected to be returning to the Ottawa Senators organization this Fall.
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, former Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson will be taking a job with the organization once the team's sale becomes finalized, which is expected to happen in early September.
"Postmedia reported in June that Andlauer sat down with former Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson to discuss a job with the Senators. The talk in hockey circles is the 50-year-old Hockey Hall of Famer would like to play a role in the club's player development.
It's expected that will be the case once the sale is closed." Garrioch said.
Alfredsson, 50, spent 17 of his 18 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Ottawa Senators and served as the team's captain from 1999 to 2013, before leaving to sign a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.
During his time with the Senators, Alfredsson appeared in 1,178 games where he tallied 1,108 points (426 goals, 682 assists), 500 penalty minutes and was a plus-153. The Gothenburg, Sweden native helped the Senators reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2007, ultimately losing to the Anaheim Ducks.
After he retired from hockey in 2014, Alfredsson returned to Ottawa and became a senior advisor of hockey operations, a role he held until 2017.
