Electronic Arts announces cover athlete for NHL 24
The next installment of the NHL video game series is due out this Fall, likely in October, but an official date hasn't been announced yet.
For Electronic Arts, the producer of the game, it's a very big week. As was announced last week, the full reveal trailer for NHL 24 was going to be released on Wednesday, August 16th and on Monday, we finally found out who will be on the cover of the game.
In a post on Twitter, EA Sports NHL announced that Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar will grace the cover of this year's game.
"All Hail Cale 🥬 #NHL24
Stanley Cup Champ, Norris Winner, and your official NHL 24 Cover Athlete
See the full reveal 8/16"
Makar is the third player in franchise history to be on the cover of an NHL video game and the first in 20 years. In 2004, Avalanche captain Joe Sakic replaced Dany Heatley on the cover and in 1998, Peter Forsberg was featured as the cover athlete.
It'll be interesting to see in the reveal on Wednesday what new features will be added to the game. Many fans are wanting EA to add PC version of the game as well as the return of GM Connected, but it's unclear if either of those will feature in this year's game.
