When the Ottawa Senators traded for young star forward Alex DeBrincat this past summer, so much was made about the fact that he might be one and done in Ottawa. With each passing day, it's looking like that may not actually be the case.
According to Shawn Simpson of TSN, Ottawa could look at bringing DeBrincat back on a one year deal at 9 million dollars, by agreeing to his qualifying offer.
DeBrincat, 25, after a slow start to the season has a respectable 56 points in 71 games for the Senators this season, including 21 goals and 35 assists.
It'll be interesting to see if where this goes in the off-season, but it seems after a rocky start to the year, DeBrincat has fit in nicely with the young Senators core. Ottawa is just outside the playoff picture as it is this year, if they can somehow find a way in, maybe that plays a part in the Senators actions as well.
There were rumors last summer that the Senators wanted to sign DeBrincat to max term extension, but instead he bet on himself. Unfortunately his slow start will go a long way to costing him millions of dollars.
