Patrick Roy says he will 'listen' if this Canadian team comes calling
Patrick Roy ended his tenure as the Head Coach and General Manager of the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts back in the Spring, capping things off with a Memorial Cup title.
There's no question that Roy wants to return to the National Hockey League in some capacity, whether that be as a Head Coach or General Manager, and this week, he addressed his desire to get back.
Note: the quotes in this story are translated from French
"If the phone ever rings, we will listen. At the moment, there are very good hockey people on each team. At this time of year, all the teams think they are going to win the championship, that's how it works." Roy said
He went on to add that if the Ottawa Senators come calling, he'll listen to what they have to say. The Senators are set to finalize their new ownership group in early September, which could open up the door to a position within the organization for the Hall of Fame goaltender.
"I think Ottawa is a great hockey city like everywhere else. Alain Vigneault told me that there are just 31 positions, 32 now, and that it is a privilege to be part of it. If the phone rings, we'll listen,"
Roy is no stranger to working in the National Hockey League as he spent three seasons as the Head Coach of the Colorado Avalanche between 2013 and 2016, winning the Jack Adams Award in his first year behind the bench.
