Reports recently surfaced that Ryan Reynolds and the Remington Group were willing to pay over a billion dollars for the Ottawa Senators. This bid would have brought on hundreds of millions of dollars over the assessed value of the franchise. This would have dramatically increased the value of every NHL franchise.

However, Reynolds and the Remington Group had one request of the league. Reynolds wanted an exclusive negotiation window that would have allowed him and his group to negotiate an exclusive deal for the LeBreton Flats arena location.

According to sources, Reynolds' request for an exclusive window to complete the deal was denied, which led Reynolds to pull out of the process. The deadline for interested groups to submit final nonbinding offers is May 15.

A recent Forbes valuation put the Senators at $800 million. The Remington Group's bid was believed to be worth more than $1 billion, according to sources.

Emily Kaplan reported the following information today. This decision could drastically decrease the franchise overall value and has driven away one of the strongest buyers.

The Senators sale is expected to be take it's next steps soon as final bids are due by May 15th.
