Joonas Korpisalo, who was one of Ottawa's biggest off-season additions has gone 1-2-0 in four games with a 3.63 goals against average and an .872 save percentage.
On Tuesday night against Buffalo, DJ Smith gave the start to Anton Forsberg, hoping that he could help the team to the victory over a division rival. But the opposite happened.
After two period, the Senators were down 5-1 after Forsberg allowed five goals on 18 shots. In the intermission, a decision was made to pull Anton Forsberg and put in Korpisalo, but it appears that news didn't make its way to the 30-year-old Swede.
As the teams took to the ice for the third period an awkward situation took place. Anton Forsberg took to the crease, but had to be told by defenceman Travis Hamonic before the puck was dropped that he was being replaced by Korpisalo.
Former NHL goaltender Mike McKenna weighed in on the awkward situation, saying the following in a post on X:
It's unclear how no one on the Ottawa Senators coaching staff told Anton Forsberg about this decision and it wouldn't be surprising at all if he's extremely frustrated with them and embarrassed about how it unfolded.
The Senators will be back in action on Thursday night against the New York Islanders and it'll be interesting to see who DJ Smith goes with between the pipes.
