Just a few days ago, it was revealed that Senators' center Shane Pinto was suspended for 41 games (literally half the regular season) for violating the NHL's staunch gambling rules. The suspension has stirred up lots of controversy among NHL fans and to be honest, they haven't released much information regarding the whole situation to the public yet.
Then, according to Steve Warne on X, it was revealed that Ottawa is about to deal with more heat from the NHL, but this time for the Evgenii Dadonov trade from two years ago.
Dadonov played for Ottawa during the 2020-2021 season, then was acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights the following year. During the 2021-2022 season, Vegas wanted to trade Dadonov and a conditional second-round pick to the Anaheim Ducks. However, according to Steve Warne, the Golden Knights were under the impression that Dadonov would be fine with the trade because he didn't have a no-trade list, but that couldn't have been more wrong.
There was indeed a no-trade list, and the Ducks were allegedly on the list of teams that Dadonov did not want to play for, thus voiding the deal. He was eventually traded to the Canadiens after his season with Vegas.
It's somewhat of a mystery why the people behind the operations of the Vegas Golden Knights didn't do their own research regarding a player they acquired. But unfortunately this mishap falls back on Ottawa, and we will probably know their second punishment within one week fairly soon.
