The Ottawa Senators needed an emergency backup goaltender on Saturday, and now video has emerged of Zachary Dietz running to the arena with his gear.

The Ottawa Senators 2024/25 season has started off fairly well, with the team well on their way to finally fulfilling their potential and pushing for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With Linus Ullmark in net, that brings further optimism to a franchise that has struggled in net for quite some time, and on Saturday they had an incredible story about one of their goaltenders.

After Anton Forsberg went down, the team needed an emergency backup goaltender (EBUG), with the team turning to the University of Ottawa's Zachary Dietz, who just so happened to be in the crowd and rocking a Josh Norris jersey.

Now, video has emerged of Dietz before the game, as he was forced to rush home and get his gear to serve in the role of EBUG, with the video showing him running towards the arena in the snowy conditions.

In three games with the University of Ottawa this year, Dietz has posted a .930 save percentage and a 1.72 GAA, so he's certainly capable of getting it done at a solid level, and now this story has gone viral, bringing plenty of attention to the 22-year old.

According to The Athletic's Julien McKenzie, Dietz was sitting all alone in the locker room waiting to get the call after rocking a signed Norris jersey to the game, posting a beautiful photo of Dietz' Senators jersey had he been needed.

Ultimately he wasn't needed on this day, which is unfortunate as he could have made an already incredible story even more special, but it's safe to say that if the team ever need an EBUG in the future, fans won't soon forget this story of Dietz and his chaotic Saturday evening.
