After an abysmal season between the pipes with Joonas Korpisalo, who signed with Ottawa last summer, the Senators have their eyes on a new starter for 2024-25.

In late May, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period linked the Ottawa Senators, along with five other teams, to Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark and it appears that both sides have been talking about a potential trade.

On Thursday's edition of 'The Jeff Marek Show', Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Bruins and Senators were talking about a potential before the deadline, but it became too complicated to do at the time. Friedman shared that the asking price to acquire Ullmark shared by Post Media's Bruce Garrioch would be interesting, but it's quite rare that goaltenders net that much in a trade.

"#GoSensGo were in on Ullmark at the deadline but it was complicated then, Ottawa was in but the most serious offer came in late and it was too complicated to do. (on Bruce's reported asking price) it would be interesting because Goalie trades don't tend to net that much" Friedman said.

Now, you may be wondering what the Boston Bruins want from the Ottawa Senators and what that aforementioned asking price that Bruce Garrioch shared was, so let's dive into it.

According to Bruce Garrioch, the Ottawa Senators would have to trade Jakob Chychrun, a first-round pick and another draft pick to Boston to acquire Linus Ullmark. Garrioch also mentioned that at the trade deadline in March, the Ottawa Senators sent an offer to the Bruins that was a package including Joonas Korpisalo, but Boston declined.

"A league executive believes the Senators would likely have to offer defenceman Jakob Chychrun along with a first-round pick and another selection to acquire Ullmark. Even then, he has a modified no-trade clause that has 15 teams on it and it's not known if Ottawa is on that list." Garrioch said.

He added, "The Senators offered Korpisalo to the Bruins as part of a package for Ullmark at the deadline, but the Bruins had no interest. Boston can't afford to take on the $16 million in salary and the four years remaining on Korpisalo's contract."

We'll have to wait and see where things go on this front in the coming days, with the NHL Entry Draft just eight days away, which is typically where trade talks and action heat up. On Wednesday, we saw three trades in the NHL, despite the league reportedly wanting teams to hold off until the Stanley Cup Final, so possibly we could see Boston and Ottawa come to an agreement on a deal sooner than many expect.
