It's an exciting time for the Philadelphia Flyers organization and their fans as the Matvei Michkov era begins, with training camp set to open on September 18th.
However as camp opens in just over a week, the team will reportedly be doing so without one of their top prospects.
According to Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff, Flyers goaltending prospect Alexei Kolosov is not expected to report to training camp and if that does happen to be the case, he'll have his contract tolled to the 2025-26 season.
Reports came out earlier this summer that said Kolosov didn't want to return to North America for the 2024-25 campaign after having a tough time during his stint in the AHL with Lehigh Valley. The Flyers reportedly had Kolosov in a hotel by himself and because he doesn't speak much English, he felt very isolated.
The 22-year-old spent the 2023-24 season in the KHL with his hometown team, Dynamo Minsk where he had a record of 22-21-3 with a 2.39 goals against average, a .907 save percentage and four shutouts. At the conclusion of Minsk's season, Kolosov headed to North America and was assigned to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, appearing in two games for them and had a 1-1-0 record.
With Alexei Kolosov unlikely to report to training camp, the Philadelphia Flyers will start the season with a goaltending tandem of Ivan Fedotov and Samuel Ersson, something they would've done regardless of the Belarusian's decision. Meanwhile, it's safe to assume that Alexei Kolosov will play for Dynamo Minsk this season, while figuring out if he wants to come back to North America before the 2025-26 campaign.
