Matvei Michkov to join Flyers in time for 2024-2025 season
In a not-so-surprising turn of events that were reported earlier today, it seems that Philadelphia Flyers 2023 first-round draft pick Matvei Michkov will be reporting to the Flyers as early as next season.
Rumours had circulated earlier this week that Michkov may never make it to North America, let alone the Flyers roster, as heard by Philadelphia general manager Daniel Briere this week in an interview on a French-language podcast; however, at the time, he may have actually believed that this was the case or that it was an attempt at smoke in mirrors.
Michkov will have his contract terminated by his KHL club, SKA, until 2026, however, his rights will still remain with the club. Michkov had been loaned to Sochi last season, appearing in 49 games with 19 goals and 22 assists.
Whether this was the plan for the Flyers to get Michkov to North America in time for this season is unknown, but his presence alone should help the Flyers.
