Kyle Dubas places former 20 goal scorer on waivers to terminate his contract
One day after a big name in Jack Campbell landed on waivers, another well known name has been placed on the wire.
According to TSN's Chris Johnson, the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed six-year NHL veteran Andreas Johnsson on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination.
"Andreas Johnsson (PIT) placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract." Johnston said in a post on X.
Johnsson, 28, signed a one-year contract worth $800,000 with the Pittsburgh Penguins back in July, but hasn't appeared in any games with them or their American Hockey League affiliate this season.
Last season, Johnsson appeared in 13 games between the New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks where he put up three assists, six penalty minutes and was a minus-six.
If Johnsson clears unconditional waivers on Thursday, he'll become an unrestricted free agent and eligible to sign with any of the 31 other NHL franchises, although he's likely heading back overseas to Europe.
