It all started earlier this week, when Mike Sullivan, head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, announced a decision that caused quite a surprise among fans: in the middle of their road trip to the West, the organization decided to send back Tristan Jarry to Pittsburgh. The goal was for him to get some individual work done following a tough start to the season.
Unfortunately for him, his descent isn't over. In a post on X, the organization announced that Jarry is being sent down to the AHL, with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Here's what they stated:
Jarry hasn't played in the AHL since the 2018-19 season, when he had a 23-23-3 record, a .915 save percentage, and a 2.66 goals-against average.
This season, the Penguins have a 3-5-1 record. Jarry competed in two full games and hasn't been in the lineup since October 16th, when he allowed three goals on five shots to the Buffalo Sabres. His .836 SV% and 5.47 GAA surely helped convince the Penguins' management to make the call to send him down the AHL.
The Penguins have a great team, with enough talent to win a Stanley Cup. However, their constant struggles in nets make things a lot harder for Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Erk Karlsson.
As of now, among the Penguins' three goalies, both Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic have
been struggling. Fortunately, the young Joel Blomqvist got most of the workload and showed glimpses of his great talent. At only 22 years old, Blomqvist has the best numbers of all the Penguins' goalies, with a 3.34 GAA and a .911 SV%.
With Jarry being sent down to the AHL, don't be surprised to see Blomqvist getting an even bigger workload, a real opportunity to build his reputation in the NHL. As for Jarry, he will try to work on his game to get back to the NHL as soon as possible.
