Engaras took a fairly routine play in the corner. There was very limited contact with the defending player sending him awkwardly into the boards, where he collided head-first. He appeared to be knocked out cold by the collision as the referees immediately blew the play dead, motioning towards the benches to send their trainers.
Earlier in the contest, Engaras scored his first goal of the season on a feed from 2022 2nd round pick Seamus Casey
Engaras was eventually stretchered off the ice. He was conscious and had movement of his extremities, alleviating the worst of fears. Regardless, fans made sure to wish him the best.
Engaras was a 6th round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2020. He's spent the last six years playing in North America, transitioning from NCAA to the AHL. Last season he had 6 goals and 12 points in 53 games with the Comets. He joins a growing list injured players, including Canadiens star forward Patrik Laine. Hopefully, Engaras's will make a full recovery and we will see him back on the ice. It appears as though he avoided the worst-case scenario thanks to modern helmet technology. The team issued a statement saying that they would update us on his condition as they get more news themselves.
There latest update confirmed that he was awake and responsive as he was taken to a local hospital for medical attention.
Be sure to stay tuned as we should get more updates from the Comets later today.
