The Pittsburgh Penguins took a chance acquiring entitled prospect Rutger McGroarty last week, trading away the franchise's top prospect Brayden Yager in order to facilitate the trade.

The 20 year old, McGroarty was in Pittsburgh for the organization's rookie tournament and training camp. He spoke to the Penguins media for the first time since the trade.

Many of the questions were focused on the deteriorated relationship with the Winnipeg Jets and if he is ready to step in the NHL. McGroarty told the reporters that he's only been promised a spot on the upcoming prospect tournament team, but he's eager to show he's ready for more.

«I've been promised a spot at the rookie tournament and that's about it. I feel like I'm gonna get what I deserve and I'm going to come ready to work for camp," he said. "I like where my game's at right now but, yeah, I'm just excited to get to camp and leave a good impression on them."

The 14th overall pick from 2022, tore it up in his last two seasons with the University of Michigan, scoring 34 goals and 91 points in 75 games.

Many hockey fans were unhappy to hear of McGroarty's attitude issues with the Jets and his unwillingness to fight for his place in the Winnipeg organization. McGroarty has a great opportunity to play with aging stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, if he can get his head right.
