Less than 24 hours after being taken away from a game on a stretcher, the St. Louis Blues Dylan Holloway is back and explaining what exactly happened to him
It was certainly the scariest moment of the 2024-25 NHL regular season, and quite likely the scariest one in a while for the league. Dylan Holloway of the St. Louis Blues was forced to leave last night's game on a stretcher and taken to hospital by ambulance after taking a puck to the neck while on the ice.
In what can only be described as very fortunate for Dylan Holloway, he's back with the St. Louis Blues less than 24 hours after the incident, and says he's feeling fine. He also took the time to explain what happened. The puck struck what is known as the Vagus nerve in his neck. It's responsible for various bodily functions, including digestion, heart rate, and breathing.
"As soon as the puck hit my neck, I knew something was a little off. As soon as I started skating I felt a little lightheaded a bit and then when I was going to the bench it kind of felt like when you stand up too fast and you get that head rush. It felt like that but it kind of just kept coming on."
The St. Louis Blues provided an update on the health status of Dylan Holloway this morning, saying that he spent the night in hospital under supervision, and his condition never deteriorated in that time. Holloway said he was in the dark about what was happening in the arena after he left.
"I didn't realize they had stopped the game. I didn't think it was actually that big of a deal. But, I'm just thankful that all the medical staff and everybody was so hands-on and was able to get me to the hospital safely."
Dylan Holloway's assessment of the medical staff's work is exactly right. Without the proper people there at the arena, things could have went much worse. It's great to see Holloway back looking essentially like nothing happened, and anxious to get back on the ice.
