Defensemen Torey Krug of the St. Louis Blues may have to miss all of the 2024-25 season, with the decision depending on an evaluation to take place in two months

Tough news for defenceman Torey Krug coming straight from the St. Louis Blues themselves. The team said in a news release that Krug will need an evaluation in another 6-8 weeks. If that evaluation doesn't go well, he'll need surgery and will miss the entire 2024-25 season.

"Torey Krug has been diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle and will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks.

If surgery is necessary, Krug would miss the entire 2024-25 season."

The news release went on to say the injury is a result of a broken ankle he suffered earlier in his career. It sounds like whatever his diagnosis is in roughly two months, Krug has a lot of work ahead of him.

"Krug will work to rehabilitate the injury through non-surgical interventions over the course of the next 6-8 weeks. After that time, he will be re-evaluated to determine whether surgery will be necessary.

Krug is officially considered to be out indefinitely and if surgery is required, he will be unavailable for the entirety of the 2024-25 season."

2024-25 would be the fifth season of Krug's current seven-year contract with the St. Louis Blues, which carries a cap hit of $6.5 million annually. He becomes an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 season, if a new contract isn't signed before then. Krug, 33, spent many years with the Boston Bruins before signing with St. Louis as a free agent in 2020.
