36-year-old defenceman announces retirement after 13 NHL seasons
After 13 seasons and 842 games in the National Hockey League, defenceman Justin Braun has decided it's time to hang up the skates.
The Minneapolis native was drafted in the seventh round by the San Jose Sharks in 2007 and would go on to make his NHL debut with them during the 2010-11 season. Braun appeared in nine seasons with the Sharks, helping them reach the 2016 Stanley Cup Final and 2019 Western Conference Final, before being traded to Philadelphia that summer.
Braun, 36, then played in parts of four seasons with the Flyers, but last season was moved to the New York Rangers at the trade deadline, appearing in 19 games for them during the Stanley Cup Playoffs as they lost in the Eastern Conference Final to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In 842 career games, Braun put up 199 points (34 goals, 165 assists) and 317 penalty minutes, while adding 16 points in 119 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
