San Jose Sharks to potentially relocate according to team update
A recent report has revealed that the San Jose Sharks are considering relocation after their current arena deal becomes unfavorable for the team on July 1st, 2025.
The San Jose Sharks have been a staple in the NHL since 1991 when the team made its debut. Now it appears the team's future in San Jose is surrounded in some questions. This comes after the team president revealed a clause in the team's lease at the SAP Center.
According to team President Jonathan Beecher, on July 1st, 2025, the teams deal with the city of San Jose changes drastically. This change makes the deal unfavorable for the franchise and would put the team at a disadvantage. Unless the city is willing to renegotiate the deal, the team would consider looking elsewhere.
According to reports, the team would look to remain in the California market relocating to either San Francisco or Oakland.
Even if the #Sharkshave to move out of San Jose due to the new SAP Center agreement, they will remain in the Bay Area.
On July 1st, 2025, the San Jose Sharks' arena management agreement with the city of San Jose changes, "unfavorably" for the Sharks, according to the Sharks' president Jonathan Becher.
The top options would likely be San Francisco or Oakland, but the team will push hard to remain in San Jose.
After watching the Arizona Coyotes move to Utah, it would be difficult to see another team relocate. While this relocation would be on a much smaller scale. It would be hard to watch a team who has had fan support for so many years move on over an arena agreement.
At this time both parties have just under a year to negotiate a new deal that works out for everyone. Hopefully the two parties can come to an agreement that works out and keeps the team in the city where it belongs.
