Quentin Musty was recently released from Sharks camp, but it appears he is refusing to report to his OHL team as a trade now becomes the likely outcome.
Last year, the San Jose Sharks landed not one but two potential stars of the future in the draft, picking up both Will Smith and Quentin Musty as they added another two high profile names to their ever improving prospect group. After the team landed Macklin Celebrini in the 2024 NHL Draft, optimism has never been higher for the future of the Sharks, but now they could have a little drama on their hands.
According to a report from Jeff Marek, Musty is refusing to report to his OHL team the Sudbury Wolves after he was released back to them from training camp, as he remains at home in New York. The Wolves have since released a statement on the situation, suggesting that it's not going to be resolved in the very near future.
"If a deal arises that significantly improves our team, we will consider it. Until then, Quentin remains an important part of the Sudbury Wolves, and he is welcome to join the team at any time."
While the team admit they are open to a trade that would significantly improve them as a team, they also aren't pursuing avenues for a trade, instead suggesting that they are willing to wait out the 19-year old. Last season for the Wolves, Musty absolutely dominated with 43 goals and 102 points in just 53 games played, but in what is expected to be his final junior year, he could be at the centre of drama.
It's unclear exactly how this will play out, with several top prospects already traded in the OHL this off-season, but if the Wolves don't get an offer that satisfies them, we could be waiting on a very long standoff.
