With the 2023-24 National Hockey League season getting underway in less than two weeks, the Seattle Kraken have announced a pretty significant hiring to aid their coaching staff.

In a post on their X account, the Kraken announced that they've hired longtime NHL head coach Dave Tippett as a coaching consultant.

"Welcome back, Tip!

We're excited to announce that Dave Tippett is returning to the organization as a coaching consultant!"

Tippett, 62, has been out of work since being fired by the Edmonton Oilers in February 2022. Prior to joining the Oilers in 2019, Tippett spent a year with the Kraken organization as an advisor by the team's ownership group.

Along with the Oilers, Tippett has been behind the bench for the Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes, Dallas Stars and began his coaching career at the NHL level as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings.

While it's not expected that Tippett will step behind the bench for the Kraken, at least not anytime soon, he's going to bring a wealth of experience to help the team's coaching staff.
