The Four Nations Faceoff between the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland is fast approaching, with all four teams shaping up to be incredible ahead of the 2026 Olympic Games.
As usual, Canada believe themselves to be favourites, and while they once more have a loaded defensive group and a fantastic forward group led by Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby, there are major questions in net.
The likes of Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill, Marc-Andre Fleury, Stuart Skinner and Sam Montembeault are all battling for spots on the roster, but given the talent in the rest of the tournament, it's underwhelming to say the least.
However, a rumour then emerged that American born Joey Daccord could be an option for Canada, given his father's Canadian heritage and his own Canadian citizenship.
After a week of speculation however, it has been confirmed that Daccord is officially not eligible due to one very intriguing and odd detail.
While Daccord is a Canadian citizen, he reportedly does not possess a Canadian passport, and because of that, he is ineligible to represent them in international competition, but will be eligible in the future if he acquires one.
Given that his 2.56 GAA and .912 save percentage are much better than any other candidate for Team Canada, Daccord would likely be a top candidate as the team's No. 1, but for now, it's simply not to be.
With Jeremy Swayman, Anthony Stolarz, Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger among others in contention for the US goaltending spot, Daccord will find it tough to make his way into the team, so while he may want to represent the United States, don't be shocked to see him pursue this Canadian route moving forward.
