In a highly-anticipated matchup between Atlantic Division competitors, one flying puck left one Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman down on Tampa Bay's ice.

Despite their time without their captain Auston Matthews, the Toronto Maple Leafs have maintained a spot in the top ten teams in the league for most of November.

However, fans were given another reason to worry during the second period of their Saturday night game on the road against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After trailing 2-0, Tampa defenseman Nicklaus Perbix had the opportunity to send the puck flying towards the Maple Leafs goal and start closing that gap.

However, instead of landing the puck in the back of the net, Toronto defenseman Jake McCabe caught the shot in his head and neck region, causing him to fall in agony.

After getting up, he went to the dressing room on his own accord, not to be brought back to the ice for the remainder of the game.

"Catches him, looks like, right in the ear."

As unfortunate as the circumstances were, the Toronto Maple Leafs were able to maintain their lead and secure a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

To add to the good news of the night, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube shared that he expects Jake McCabe to be completely fine for Toronto's next game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will make their next appearance against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, December 2nd.

With no time off expected for Jake McCabe, hopefully, he will not have too much issue handling his injury in this upcoming appearance on the ice.
