The trade deadline is getting closer, and while there are still a lot of games left to be played before NHL teams make their final adjustments to their roster, we're starting to get a clear picture of which organizations will be buyers and sellers on March 7th.
As of now, no teams have been officially eliminated from the race, but we can already name a few organizations that won't make it unless they make major changes to their team, such as the Seattle Kraken.
After 44 games, the Kraken is in the seventh spot in the Pacific Division, with an 18-23-3 record. Only the San Jose Sharks are behind them in the rankings, with 32 points after 45 games.
The chances of seeing them being able to turn their season around at this point are very slim. In their last ten games, the Kraken only won three times.
With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising to see them trade away a few of their players before the deadline.
According to Elliotte Friedman, two players could leave the organization before March 7th: Oliver Bjorkstrand and Andre Burakovsky.
Bjorkstrand, a third-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2013 NHL Draft, made quite the impression in the WHL, scoring 144 goals in three seasons before joining the Blue Jackets.
The 29-year-old forward was traded to Seattle in 2022 and hasn't scored under 20 goals in a season since. This year, after 43 games, he has 28 points, including 13 goals.
He has another season left on his $5,400,000 AAV contract.
As for Burakovsky, the 28-year-old forward has 366 points in 658 NHL games played for the Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche, and Seattle Kraken.
He notably won two Stanley Cups, with the Capitals in 2018 and with the Avalanche in 2022.
This season, Burakovsky has 16 points in 41 games, including 4 goals, with two more years left on his $5,500,000 AAV deal signed in 2022.
