After making the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in team history two seasons ago, the Seattle Kraken took a major step back a season ago, ultimately resulting in the firing of Dave Hakstol. Unfortunately, things haven't gone as well in 2024/25 thus far as they would have hoped, as the team have dropped six of their last seven games to go to 5-7-1 through 13 games, but they remain optimistic that the playoffs are a possibility.
To make that happen however, General Manager Ron Francis may be forced to make a shocking move, as the Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli has made a surprise report about their forward group.
According to Seravalli, the team may have too many forwards, and it's going to force them to trade at least one player, with the Insider name dropping long time fan favourites Brandon Tanev and Yanni Gourde. Even before this report however, both players were drawing interest on the trade market, with the team not yet getting an offer that has made them pull the trigger on a trade.
Both players have been with the Kraken since the expansion draft of 2021 introduced them as the NHL's 32nd team, but after adding some huge names since that point, there's only so many spots that can be occupied in a starting lineup. It's unclear when exactly the team will look to make a decision on trimming down their forward group, but after a poor start, they'll need to turn things around quickly if they want to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time in franchise history.
