The Seattle Kraken acquired Daniel Sprong earlier this season from Vancouver, and now the 27-year old has been placed on waivers in a surprising move.

After acquiring him in the off-season, the Vancouver Canucks sent Daniel Sprong to the Seattle Kraken earlier this season during a surprise trade with Pacific Division rivals.

This was seen as a shock for many reasons, most of which being that Sprong was solid on the ice for the Canucks, but now, we may know now why Vancouver traded him.

On Wednesday, the Kraken officially announced that the team are placing the 27-year old on waivers, and after solid production, there must be something going on behind the scenes for him to be moved by not one but two teams in the first three months of the season.

The Kraken didn't give a reason for the move, but ultimately it appears that Sprong simply wasn't cutting it for a team that's underperformed thus far in 2024/25, and with this move, they are potentially hoping to spark a big run in the second half of the season.

Despite being just 27-years old, Sprong made his debut in the NHL back in 2015/16, playing in 363 games for Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Washington, Seattle, Detroit and Vancouver all before a reunion with the Kraken earlier in the season.

During that time, the former second-round pick has tallied 87 goals and 164 points, with his career high of 46 coming during the second year of a two season stint with the Kraken back in the 2021/22 campaign.

However, his numbers this season don't appear great, as he has just 2 goals and 5 points with a -1 differential over 19 games between Vancouver and Seattle, and after being on two teams already this season, we now wait to see whether or not he'll be picked up on waivers in the next 24 hours.
