Shane Wright's comments coming back to haunt him
Shane Wright sat down for an interview with Sam Cosentino and shared his thoughts on how good he is.
At the 2022 NHL Draft, Shane Wright w was considered to be the consensus number. One draft pick. Many consider the forward to be a generational talent who would make an immediate impact in the league. As the night rolled on Wright found himself falling down the draft board and ultimately was selected 4th overall by the Seattle Kraken.
Fast forward 2 years and Wright is still yet to find himself as a regular in the NHL. After being granted a special exemption last season Wright played last year, almost entirely in the American Hockey League. Before being called up at the end of the season to join the Kraken.
In 8 games with Seattle, Wright scored 4 goals and added 1 assist. The 8 games allowed the Kraken to once again slide Wright's NHL deal and maintain full control of the rookie for 3 years. As doubts have begun to raise about Wright's abilities, he sat down with Sportsnet's Sam Cosentino.
When asked about his belief in himself Wright had the following to say:
"I believe that's where I should go. I believe that I'm the best player. I believe that, you know, throughout my play, throughout my entire life, it has shown that I'm the best player, and I'm a competitive guy, and I want to be that spot, and I don't want anyone to take that from me, and I believe that I'm deserving of being that number one spot, and I believe that I'm going to be the first pick"
"I'm still a player that I should be. I'm still a generational talent."
Fast forward two years and it's hard to imagine Wright ever lives up to the hype he once had. However feeling like he is a generational talent just goes to show you how over used that term might be
