Yesterday afternoon news leaked about Jeremy Swayman's massive asking price in negotiations with the Boston Bruins. According do reports Swayman was looking for an average annual value of $10 million per season. This price would make him one of the highest paid players in the entire league and one of the top three highest paid goaltenders.
At this time that asking price isn't palatable for Boston and no deal has been agreed upon. While many fans hope the situation is resolved before training camp, there is no guarantee. At this time it appears Swayman is looking to secure his first major payday at the NHL level. This comes just a year after an arbitration hearing that Swayman described as something he wouldn't wish upon any of his friends or teammates.
After deciding not to file for arbitration this season, Swayman had decided to dig in his heels and fight for his true worth. One fan pointed out an interesting fact about Swayman and his representation heading into this negotiations. While no one wants to hold out, Lewis Gross, Swayman's agent has become notorious for it, using it more than once as a negotiating tactic.
Hopefully for the of the Bruins and their fans, let's hope the two parties are able to iron out this situation sooner than later. After letting Linus Ullmark to the depth in the Bruins' crease is definitely lacking.
