Corey Perry reaches decision on whether he wants to retire or continue playing hockey next season
Sometimes when a player's career is coming to an end in the National Hockey League, they know it but get to decide when they want to go out; for others, they're not so lucky. As you age, the offseason becomes a time of deliberate decision-making, and for one aging veteran, he's already made a determination on his future.
According to Chris Krenn a Tampa Bay Lightning beat reporter, Corey Perry wants to play in the NHL next season, take a look:
Perry, 37, had a very productive season for someone who at this point in his career is being used solely on the Lightning's 4th line. He skated in 81 games this past season putting up 12 goals and 13 assists for a total of 25 points.
Whether his career with Tampa Bay remains to be seen, but I could see him being a solid depth add for a contending team if his next contract is at or near league minimum as his last couple have been.
At almost 38 years old, counting on 25 points a season from a bottom 6 player can be valuable, especially with his reputation in the playoffs, where he's known for scoring key goals.
