Tampa Bay Lightning sign Cam Atkinson after buyout by the Philadelphia Flyers
35-year-old Cam Atkinson has been signed by Tampa Lightning GM Julien BriseBois just days after being bought out of his contract by the Philadelphia Flyers
Tampa Bay Lightning General Manager Julien BriseBois has decided to take a chance on a veteran, signing Cam Atkinson to a one year deal. Atksinson had one year left on his contract with the Philadelphia Flyers when he was cut loose recently.
"NEWS: LetsGoFlyers to buyout Cam Atkinson. Had 1 year left at $5.875M
Buyout cap hit, per
@PuckPedia:
2024/25: $2,358,333
2025/26: $1,758,333"
Atkinson's freshly inked deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning pays him considerably less than his old one, coming in at $900,000 for the 2024-25 season, but the money is likely secondary to Atkinson at this point. He just wants a chance to prove he can still contribute.
"Here comes Cam!
We have signed free agent forward Cam Atkinson to a one-year contract worth an AAV of $900,000."
Drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Atkinson became a huge presence in Ohio, and was a beloved member of the team for several years before moving on to the Philadelphia Flyers in a trade for Jakub Voracek in 2021.
"GoBolts have signed veteran forward Cam Atkinson to a one-year deal, $900K. Before his season with the Flyers, Atkinson was one of the leaders of the Columbus Blue Jackets for a decade."
The Tampa Bay Lightning have gone through major changes in the offseason so far, with months left to go before the 2024-25 season gets underway. Most notably, captain Steven Stamkos signed with the Nashville Predators as a free agent after spending his entire career in Tampa.
