Tim Peel hasn't officiated a game in the National Hockey League since March 2021 and in his retired life, he's been known to give some interesting takes on Twitter.

Peel, who was essentially fired by the National Hockey League in 2021 after being caught on a hot mic boasting about giving a penalty to the Nashville Predators because he wanted to, took to Twitter following Toronto's loss on Friday night and said that the Maple Leafs won't win anything with Auston Matthews.

"Never going to win with Austin Matthews. Doesn't have the jam to play in the playoffs. Too soft. #StanleyCupPlayoffs #leafsforver #TimeToHunt" Peel said.

While Matthews didn't show up on the scoresheet during the second round series against Florida, which ended in five games, it's pretty bold to call the star forward soft.

Matthews was tied for the most hits among ANYONE on the Maple Leafs' roster last night with nine, along with Noel Acciari. Even Mitch Marner, who doesn't throw the body too often, finished the game with seven hits.

Just some food for thought, but perhaps before calling someone soft, Tim Peel should take a peek at the scoresheet to see how many hits Matthews had.
