Yesterday before the Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Ottawa Senators, they made a couple of call ups, with one of them being goaltender Joseph Woll from the Toronto Marlies, now we finally know why.
Goaltender Ilya Samsonov will be away from the team for the birth of his first child according to Head Coach Sheldon Keefe, take a look:
We left Samsonov at home last night, He has had a couple minor things he has been dealing with, which allows him to stay back and take care of that. Also, he and his wife are expecting a baby here any day now. It allows us to keep him at home.
Samsonov is having a fantastic season for the Leafs, in 35 games this season, he has a record of 24-8-3 with 3 shutouts to go along with a 2.35 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
Above all else, family comes first, I'm glad the Leafs were able to make arrangements so samsonov could be with his family during the teams 5 game road trip.
Congratulations to Ilya and his wife on the growing family!
