Sunday's waiver wire was a busy one to say the least with a total of 40 players being placed on it by their respective teams. The reason why there was so many on waivers yesterday is because it was the last day to use the wire and have players clear before opening night rosters were due, which is today at 5 p.m. ET.

One of the bigger names on the waiver wire yesterday was Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Martin Jones, but it wasn't too shocking. The Maple Leafs weren't expected to carry three goaltenders to start the year and were comfortable going with a tandem of Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll.

Jones would be an intriguing option for many teams in need of goaltending help at the moment including the Tampa Bay Lightning. But a certain clause in his contract may make teams a little hesitant to place a waiver claim.

According to TSN's Chris Johnston, Jones is due a $100,000 bonus on Tuesday, which was strategically planned by the Maple Leafs when they signed him to a one-year deal back in August.

"Of note with veteran #leafs goaltender Martin Jones currently on waivers: Any team putting in a successful claim will owe him a $100,000 bonus payment tomorrow.

The timing of that bonus was structured into the $875,000, one-year contract he signed in August." Johnston said.

Jones, 33, appeared in three games during the pre-season with the Maple Leafs, allowing four goals on 62 shots. His best game of the pre-season came against the Montreal Canadiens on September 30th where he made 33 saves on 34 shots.
