The Toronto Maple Leafs have their first round matchup set against the Tampa Bay Lightning and while home ice wasn't settled until last night, playoff tickets went on sale earlier this week.
Toronto is one of the hottest hockey markets in the National Hockey League, but these prices are absolutely astronomical, pricing out the vast majority of the fan base, take a look:
The problem here is going to a hockey game in Toronto is expensive enough usually easily around a few hundred dollars at least in the regular season, with the price in the playoffs changing from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars most cannot afford to go.
In this case, people know going to a game in Toronto is a hot commodity and they're buying tickets to only resell them at 10 times the original price.
If you were one of the lucky ones to get a presale code, tickets were probably more attainable, at this rate you'd need to take out another mortgage on your home to be able to afford playoff tickets in Toronto. That, resale or not, isn't okay.
