Ryan O'Reilly opens up on whether or not he'd be willing to re-sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs
When the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Ryan O'Reilly from the St. Louis Blues it was with winning a Stanley Cup in mind. O'Reilly is the personification of a true professional and is certainly someone who knows what it takes to get his team to the next level. Since his arrival, he's been exactly as advertised.
In just 13 games with the Maple Leafs O'Reilly has added 11 points, just 8 points shy of the 19 points he put up in St. Louis in 40 games. Unfortunately O'Reilly missed approximately 10 games with the Leafs after he suffered a broken finger after being struck by an Auston Matthews shot during a game in Vancouver.
Recently O'Reilly shared his thoughts with Luke Fox on the possibility of re-signing with the Maple Leafs in the summer and about what he's enjoyed most about being in Toronto.
It's impressive. I always knew there was lots of staff here and resources. Getting here and seeing it firsthand, it's at first a little overwhelming. Once you kind of get a handle and get to know everyone, it's pretty amazing, the help that you have to assist your play. Like myself coming back from injury and just every facet of your meals to everything. It's just so elite and above everything I've seen before.
Yeah. Obviously, yeah, that's for sure. We got playoffs still to come, but, yeah, there's not a bad thing I can say for this organization. They do everything the right way, and if something doesn't work here, they're changing, right? They're always looking at ways to get better. And that's the reason why it is such an amazing franchise.
While that's certainly not a committal by O'Reilly that he'd like to remain in Toronto it certainly seems that way. As a local boy, O'Reilly could have the best of both worlds being with a team like the Leafs and being close to friends and family.
Unfortunately the salary cap doesn't make things that cut and dry. The Maple Leafs will certainly need to look at all aspects of the cap, including the upcoming extensions for both Auston Matthews and William Nylander.
