The Toronto Maple Leafs recall forward Alex Steeves from the AHL's Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis ahead of Tuesday's tilt against the Ottawa Senators.
The Maple Leafs would still have a complete lineup of 12 forwards with Connor Dewar back from long-term injured reserve last Friday.
The call to bring Alex Steeves up from the minors might indicate something is bugging Max Domi or William Nylander, who did not practice Monday for maintenance.
Toronto was down a roster spot, having moved Max Pacioretty to injured reserve on Monday. An additional move wasn't needed to free up the space, then, until the possible injuries to either Domi or Nylander.
There's room in the LTIR pool for Steeves and his $775,000 cap hit, and according to PuckPedia, the team has $1.83MM in space in that pool at present.
Meanwhile, Steeves has at least had less of an issue finding his place in the lineup at the AHL level over the past couple of years as one of the top scorers, even if his production isn't much to write home about up at the NHL level.
He set new career highs last season with 27 goals and 57 points in 67 games for the Marlies and has started off strong in 2024-25 as well, the only one in double digits for the Marlies with 12 points in just 10 games.
Fans are hoping this slew of injuries will not limit the hot pace the Leafs have been on over the last week. Tonight's game is set to be a good one.
