Boeser missed the Canucks last game on Saturday when they lost 7-3 to the Edmonton Oilers. His presence in the lineup probably would not have changed the outcome in that one, but it is always nice to have a fully healthy lineup.
Sadly, Boeser was out after taking a hit from Kings forward Tanner Jeannot, who got a three-game suspension as a result.
Luckily, the Canucks were able to win that game in LA, but Boeser is a very important part of this team. In fact, he currently leads the team in goals with 6 and is in a three way tie for second on the team in scoring with 11 points despite the fact that he missed Saturday's contest.
If he is out for an extended period of time, that would be a bug blow for the team. Head coach Rick Tocchet did give us some insight today, saying that the 27-year-old is out day-to-day as a result of the hit.
Boeser has already been out three days and appears to be missing tomorrow night's game against the Calgary Flames based on this comment and the fact that he did not practice with the team this morning.
This would indicate that he very well could be out longer than we expect. It will be interesting to see if he can return by Thursday when the Canucks host the New York Islanders. If he misses that one as well, the team might as well have put him on IR, which comes with a seven-day minimum. So far, he does appear to be on pace for that.
That being said, it is not all doom and gloom for the Canucks. Former Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau commented on their situation saying that there are a couple of things they can do to help in the short-term to fill in the gaps during Boeser's temporary absence.
Hopefully, Boeser will return to the ice shortly and this will no longer be a problem.
In the meantime, it should be interesting to see how Rick Tocchet handles tomorrow's game against a strong division rival so be sure to tune in for that one.
