It may not even be the start of the regular season, but it would appear that there might be an imminent goalie predicament with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The rumblings are getting loud, and fans are beginning to wonder what is going on with the netminders.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman got the pot stirring when he tweeted on X that Dennis Hildeby was coming to Montreal. Friedman speculated "Perhaps a signal that something's up with either Anthony Stolarz or Joseph Woll." Friedman's colleague Luke Fox added some intrigue, suggesting there might have been health concerns about Woll, but no details were given.
The Leafs are about to get busy, with three games in four days. An Original Six showdown at the Bell Centre against the Canadiens kicks it off, followed by a road game against the New Jersey Devils. They'll return home to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in their Scotiabank Arena home opener.
It appears management didn't seem fazed, apparently, despite goalie rumors. General Manager Brad Treliving talked about Woll's injury history of the past while reminding everyone that Woll is in great shape presently. New head coach Craig Berube wouldn't say too much but did briefly address his intentions for goalie rotation this season.
The Leafs head into tonight's action with newly acquired goalie Anthony Stolarz set to stand between the pipes. Meanwhile Joseph Woll is dealing with a lower body injury.
